The Florida oceanfront mansion of Ron Rice, the late sunscreen lotion tycoon and founder of the Hawaiian Tropic brand, is on the market for US$5.99 million.
Mr Rice, who passed away last year at the age of 81 in Daytona Beach, rose from humble beginnings as a high school chemistry teacher to become a multi-millionaire with his successful suncare business, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.
He fell in love with Florida’s beaches and the sun-and-sand lifestyle, and in 1969 he launched Hawaiian Tropic, a brand that would go on to generate $110 million in sales before being sold to Platex (makers of Banana Boat) for US$83 million in 2007.
The luxurious mansion features 1114sq m of living space, including four bedrooms and five bathrooms, two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, and 60m of beach frontage.
The property boasts unique woodwork, expressive wall coverings, and stone accents that create a striking style, while floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive outdoor decks offer unobstructed views of the ocean.
The opulent bedroom suites each have their own private balconies, and the kitchen comes equipped with a massive wrap-around bar.
A recessed den, disco dance floor, and indoor/outdoor bar and lounge provide ample space for entertaining, and a mermaid-themed mural adorns one of the bathrooms.
During Mr Rice’s life, the entire house was filled with his extensive and eccentric art collection, including statues of wild animals and framed photos of his bikini models and celebrity friends.
He even kept a wall of TVs tuned to different channels, powered by the largest satellite dish in Florida.
