Boston Logan International Airport TSA officials made an explosive find on Wednesday, Jan. 25 — a bottle of perfume in the shape of a grenade.
The issue with the perfume bottle wasn’t its liquid contents, however; TSA prohibits passengers to fly with replicas of explosives in both checked and carry-on luggage. TSA’s website does not go in to detail as to why realistic replicas are not allowed.
The government organization’s site states though toy guns and weapons are permitted in checked baggage, there may be special instructions for the item in carry-on luggage.
“Squirt guns, Nerf guns, toy swords, or other items that resemble realistic firearms or weapons are prohibited,” TSA stated on its site. “Replicas of explosives, such as hand grenades, are prohibited in checked and carry-on baggage. TSA Officers have the discretion to prohibit any item through the screening checkpoint if they believe it poses a security threat.”
TSA officials seized a record number of guns in airports across the country with New England airports and Boston Logan following suit in their own numbers of record detections. There were 31 firearms detected in Boston Logan alone in 2022.
