We all have that one friend whose mother creates unforgettable culinary delights. For me, it was my friend’s mum who crafted incredible Ghanaian rotis during my childhood, inspiring my own version of this cherished recipe. My rendition is unique, utilizing ghee for frying and incorporating flaxseed, which is rich in phytoestrogens. These compounds mimic the action of oestrogen in the body, making this dish an excellent option for anyone experiencing hormonal imbalances that may affect their skin health. If you’re interested in the extensive benefits of embracing a fresh, seasonal diet, you can explore further in my book, Eat Beautiful.
Discover the Comprehensive Nutritional Advantages of Flaxseed
Flaxseed is a powerhouse of nutrients, offering a plethora of health benefits due to its rich composition. It serves as an excellent source of protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids, along with essential vitamins like thiamine and minerals such as copper. These components make flaxseed an invaluable addition to your dietary regimen. Furthermore, the omega-3 fatty acids and lignans found in flaxseed have been linked to a reduced risk of various cancers, including breast, prostate, and colon cancers, promoting overall health and well-being.

Delicious and Healthy Paleo Rotis Recipe to Try Today
Yields 6–8 Flavorful Rotis
Approximately 80 Calories per Roti
240g golden flaxseed meal
240g tapioca flour
300ml coconut milk
Pinch of sea salt
1 tbsp ghee
- Begin by heating a non-stick frying pan, ensuring it has a diameter of at least 24cm, over medium heat.
- In a jug or bowl, combine all the ingredients thoroughly, then pour half of the batter into the pan, using a spoon to evenly spread it across the bottom.
- After 2–3 minutes, or when the batter appears fluffy and mostly cooked, carefully flip it over with a spatula to cook the opposite side. (Patience is key, as this process takes some time. If you notice the outside starting to burn, simply lower the heat.) Once cooked, transfer the roti to a plate.
- Pour the remaining batter into the pan and repeat the cooking process for both sides as described above.
