If you’ve come across the buzz surrounding the new NYX Cosmetics Duck Plump High Pigment Lip Gloss, I want to clarify that my choice to try it out wasn’t influenced by the marketing gimmicks! For those who haven’t seen it, the promotion featured men humorously considering the possibility of using this product for enhancing their own anatomy. It’s puzzling to understand the origin of such a marketing strategy, as this kind of humor is often perceived as somewhat crass. Nevertheless, it certainly stirred conversations and drew attention to the product!

Available in a diverse range of 18 shades (though the Canadian website lists only 9 compared to the US site), these lip glosses boast exceptional pigmentation and a lustrous finish. They are also infused with spicy ginger, which is touted to enhance lip volume with regular application. As for the intriguing name “Duck Plump,” it seems to reference a once-popular trend where many girls posed for selfies with their lips pursed, resembling a duck. It’s fascinating to see how trends cycle back into popularity—has it really been two decades since this style emerged?

The conveniently designed stout tubes come equipped with a generously sized doe-foot applicator, which I find to be quite substantial! My lips aren’t particularly narrow, yet I often need to remove a significant amount of product because the applicator dispenses an abundance. The pigmentation of the gloss is indeed as impressive as advertised, and while the shine may not persist for more than an hour, the residual color is quite appealing.

Does it really plump? I can confidently say that NYX has created a product that delivers an intense sensation unlike anything I have experienced before! The ingredient list includes ginger extract, but the star component is actually Capsicum frutescens fruit extract derived from chili peppers. This is likely the source of the heat that users experience upon application!
When comparing the spiciness, I’ve tested various levels of Too Faced Lip Injection and DuWop Lip Venom, both of which are well-known for their lip-plumping effects. However, I found Duck Plump to be exponentially more intense—applying the full amount from the applicator resulted in a sensation that is at least ten times stronger, lasting for about an hour! While the intensity does begin to fade, that tingling sensation remains noticeable for quite some time after application, so tread lightly if you’re sensitive!
Explore the Shade: Mauve Out My Way

Discover the Shade: Strike a Rose

I find myself reaching for the shade Mauve Out My Way more often due to its nude and brown undertones, which I appreciate for everyday wear. This shade is versatile and complements a variety of looks. The days of bold pinks and reds are behind me! My concern stems from the potential for color displacement, which is why I prefer a matte formula that stays put once applied.

My Honest Assessment: I genuinely appreciate the shades I selected, but after trying these glosses, I feel satisfied without needing to explore further options. While they offer a unique experience, there are days when I prefer a more subdued lip feeling without the intense sensation of heat! NYX has been upfront about the effects of this product, and they certainly delivered on their promises. I believe their claims regarding lip enhancement with continued use are valid, as the sensation lasts for hours after each application; however, one can reduce the spiciness by using less product.
You can find the NYX Cosmetics Duck Plump High Pigment Lip Gloss at major drugstores throughout Canada. I purchased mine at London Drugs during a promotional sale!
