Over the past two months, if you’ve been following my journey on Instagram, you might have noticed an exciting new venture I’ve embarked on as the Chief Brand Officer for the innovative British skincare brand Pelegrims. This role has been both thrilling and intimidating for me, especially since I would never associate my name with a brand unless I genuinely believed in its value. Our dedicated team is small but passionate, and I’ve been deeply involved in managing social media, capturing stunning product photography, and collaborating tirelessly with my business partner to successfully introduce this remarkable brand to the Canadian market. The intricacies of logistics are still quite new to me, but I’m eagerly learning and researching whenever I can, as this opportunity is an incredible learning experience.
Let’s dive into the essence of Pelegrims before I share my first official product review! Founded by Alex Verier and Jerome Moisan in Kent, England, this brand immediately captured my attention due to its unique approach to skincare. What truly sets Pelegrims apart is their innovative use of harvested grape extracts derived from the byproducts of winemaking. After the grapes are pressed, Pelegrims creatively utilizes the remnants, including leaves and vines, to formulate their luxurious skincare products. They source these grape extracts exclusively from Westwell Wines, allowing them to trace the origin of the grapes to specific vineyard plots. This commitment to provenance and sustainability is genuinely impressive! All products are handcrafted in small batches, formulated, and packaged in their own lab, which reflects their dedication to quality. Think of it as a beautiful journey from Vineyard to Skin!
The formulation includes a luxurious blend of grapeseed oil, marine algae, English Pinot Noir extract, and grape skin powder—the latter giving it a lovely pinkish hue. These ingredients work synergistically to nourish and soften the skin while promoting natural collagen production. The result is a product that not only moisturizes but also enhances your skin’s overall health and appearance.
The efficacy of grapes, along with powerful compounds like resveratrol and polyphenols, is well-known in the skincare industry, largely thanks to pioneering brands like Caudalie and Vinter’s Daughter. Research has shown that resveratrol can significantly boost collagen synthesis, enhance skin regeneration, and provide protection against harmful UV rays, making it an essential ingredient for maintaining youthful and glowing skin.
One of the standout features of this balm is its delightful scent, which is reminiscent of many other plant-based products. The fragrance is a comforting blend of Fresh Air, Wild Rose, and Sea Salt, creating a soft and soothing aroma that would make for a lovely candle scent as well!
While I typically use this balm as a substitute for my daily moisturizer, it can also be layered over your existing moisturizer or facial oil for an extra boost of hydration when needed!
Pelegrims takes great pride in their artisanal approach to skincare. Each product is hand-packaged, allowing customers to see the specific harvest from which the grape extracts are sourced, along with the batch number. This level of transparency is rare in the beauty industry. Despite the handwritten details, the overall presentation balances luxury and artisanal craftsmanship seamlessly, showcasing Pelegrims’ commitment to quality skincare.
My Honest Assessment: This was one of the first products I experienced from Pelegrims, and I am genuinely pleased with my choice. The performance of this balm is notably distinct from other facial balms I’ve tried. While it does require a moment to warm up, it absorbs beautifully and hydrates my skin without leaving that greasy or shiny finish that is often associated with similar products. This unique quality is what truly sets this balm apart from the rest!
