George’s drop-off location.
Milton Keynes community group, Charity Recycling MK, are thanking the local community for helping them raise a huge amount of money for charity by collecting “unrecyclable” products and packaging.
The group collects items from the local community that the council doesn’t include in its recycling collections. Once collected the items are sent to TerraCycle, the world leader in recycling hard-to-recycle waste.
Local residents are encouraged to drop off their hard-to-recycle items including used oral care products, cheese packaging, Pringles tubes and biscuit and snack wrappers at 25 Cantle Avenue, Downs Barn, Milton Keynes.
The location was set up by Charity Recycling MK Founder George Thomson after he signed up to a number of free recycling programmes run by TerraCycle including The Colgate Oral Care, Cathedral City Cheese Packaging, Pringles and Pladis Biscuits and Snacks Recycling Programmes.
For every piece of waste collected, points are earned which are redeemable as monetary donations to good causes. Charity Recycling MK has donated more than £25,000 to MK Cat Rescue, and in the past has donated thousands to charities including McMillan Cancer, Willen Hospice.
The group has collected almost 7 million pieces of waste so far and is urging the community to get involved to collect more.
George Thomson said: “Now in our 10th year, Charity Recycling MK is celebrating raising over £66,000 for charity. None of this would be possible without the support of the many local kind-hearted residents who bring selected packaging to our Downs Barn drop off point, and I’m so grateful to them all.”
