We recently celebrated our first FIFA weekend in Vancouver! The last time our city hosted an event of such magnitude was during the 2010 Olympics. Despite its smaller size, Vancouver managed to accommodate a staggering number of visitors. During my commute last weekend, I encountered a gigantic line stretching around Waterfront Station and down West Cordova, easily consisting of over 1000 people. What were they waiting for? Compass cards designed as adorable soccer ball keychains! While they are cute, you won’t find me queuing for hours in the rain on a Saturday morning for anything, no matter how charming it may be!

I must admit, the Face Shop sheet masks I have are quite old, but using them now feels almost the same as when I first tried them eight years ago (I had a few left from my earlier stash). Many people hesitate to use expired skincare products, but I’ve never faced any adverse effects on my skin or noticed anything unusual. I believe sheet masks are somewhat unique; they are sealed tightly, and the foil-lined packaging appears to preserve their quality better than other skincare products.

I stumbled upon these masks while sorting through some old Avon press samples. Back in 2019, LG, which owns The Face Shop along with other K-beauty brands, acquired Avon North America. As a result, I began receiving TFS products while on the Avon press list, which was a delightful surprise! Character masks were extremely popular a decade ago, and even though I still cherish them today, they were ubiquitous in the mid-2010s. This particular set from TFS was a hot topic among beauty enthusiasts! All three masks delivered quite similar results, so I will review them together at the end!

Let’s start with the Monkey mask, which boasts a fruity apple scent. While it does have a subtle fruity aroma, I wouldn’t specifically identify it as apple. This mask is formulated to soothe and moisturize, featuring ingredients such as apple extract, hydrolyzed collagen, and hyaluronic acid.

If you hadn’t told me this was a monkey mask, I wouldn’t have recognized it! I feel more like I’m wearing a traditional Chinese opera mask!

The Pig Mask is designed for hydration and includes honey extract, which enhances radiance alongside hydrolyzed collagen and hyaluronic acid. This mask also had a delightful honey fragrance!

I believe the eyes on these masks contribute to the impression that they don’t resemble the animals they claim to represent. The mouths also appear more like moustaches than anything else!

The Puppy Mask aims to brighten the skin, featuring niacinamide, cotton seed extract, hydrolyzed collagen, and hyaluronic acid. Interestingly, this mask had a pleasant cotton scent!

Again, would anyone have guessed that this was meant to be a dog? Perhaps the spots on the sides of my face and the snout are the only clues!

Final Thoughts on Face Shop Character Masks: All three masks left a rather tacky residue, which I had completely forgotten about until I removed the first mask. The inclusion of castor oil early in the ingredients list contributes to their hydrating properties, but it results in a thick, sticky texture. The material of the masks is also notably thick, reminiscent of the earlier printed masks from that time. Fortunately, advancements in mask production have led to softer, better-fitting printed masks today. Overall, these masks brought a sense of amusement but were not significantly different from one another, and I am glad they are part of my collection!
