Study reveals Zymox Otic Plus is beneficial and effective

PKB Animal Health, a company focusing on enzyme-based dermatology and oral care products for animals, announced¹ the Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences has published findings² based on a recent study investigating the effects of Zymox Otic Plus on canine otitis externa and removal of biofilms. The study evaluated the in vivo and in vitro efficacy, revealing that Zymox Otic Plus is “effective and beneficial” for canine otitis externa management.

Otitis externa is the most common disorder of the ear canal in dogs.³ However, antibiotic resistance presents a major challenge to its treatment and it is believed that bacteria and yeast produce biofilm structures that lead to persistent conditions that are not responsive to traditional antibiotic therapeutics. On the other hand, Zymex Otic Plus binding features a the biofilm-degrading enzymes mutanase and dextranase. This study’s conclusion displays that Zymox Otic Plus may serve as an effective alternative to antibiotics.

Other studies highlighting Zymox’s efficacy have been published in The International Journal of Applied Veterinary Research on antibiofilm efficacy and a broad range of microorganisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Malasseziaand Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
