About Sue Phillips
With over 30 years’ experience, Sue Phillips is a fragrance and branding expert and SCENTREPRENEUR®. She is the founder of Scenterprises Inc. and Sue Phillips Fragrance; a charming fragrance boutique or “atelier” studio where clients can discover beautiful fragrances and create their own, and where Phillips hosts curated multi-sensory events.
Phillips created and developed TIFFANY perfume for Tiffany & Company, and many other popular fragrances, and has also created signature scents for celebrities including Jamie Foxx, Katie Holmes, Zendaya, Susan Sarandon, and many others.
Phillips began her career at Elizabeth Arden in the areas of training, product development, and marketing, and was then recruited by Lancôme, Paris. After four years, she was lured by Tiffany & Company to develop and launch the first Tiffany perfume. From Tiffany , Sue established her company Scenterprises Inc., and designed and launched fragrances for Society by Burberry, Burberry for Men, Diane von Furstenburg and many other well-known brands. Throughout her career Sue’s passion, ability, and ingenuity have resulted in her being at the forefront of innovation and always delivering quality products and experiences to her clients.
After the economic collapse in 2008, Sue “repositioned” her company and began offering personalized fragrances for men, women, corporations, team-building groups, and bridal events. Her memorable fragrance “experiences” and “fragrance bars” for large off-site corporate events, parties, and fundraisers became instant hits. Phillips also created her perfumery, The Scentarium, now renamed Sue Phillips Fragrance Boutique, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where she designs customized fragrances for high-end clients.
In addition to her fragrance business, Phillips is also recognized as a motivational speaker and has authored the book, “The Power of Perfume.” She has written articles for many publications and, since the pandemic, has been pioneering the use of fragrance in helping people who suffer from long haul Covid-19 recover their sense of smell.
A recipient of many awards, Phillips has most recently been honored with the 2020 Top Fragrance and Marketing Expert by the International Association of Top Professionals, the 2019 LuxLife Global Excellence Awards Best Custom Perfume Creation – USA, and the 2019 Enterprising Women of the Year from Enterprising Woman Magazine. She is an expert witness in legal cases for distribution disputes, copyright, and trademark infringements, and is a member of Fashion Group International and Cosmetic Executive Women.
Phillips earned a BA in Legal Theory of Finance from the University of South Africa in 1975 and a BA in Speech and Drama from the University of Cape Town in 1979. In her spare time, she enjoys music, theater, acting, traveling with her daughter , culinary arts, and tennis.
