Absolutely! The journey that led to the creation of Tamanu Balm began in 2013 when we launched our Ambassador sales opportunity. We started with a dedicated group of 400 Ambassadors, and it was crucial for me to connect with each one personally. These individuals represented the first wave of people I entrusted to share my products beyond my close circle of friends and family, and I wanted to ensure they felt confident in what they were promoting.
As I engaged in conversations with our Ambassadors and listened to their remarkable life experiences, I recognized an incredible opportunity to expand my skincare line significantly. It became clear that I needed to develop products that genuinely addressed their unique skin concerns, allowing them to represent our brand authentically. I understood that the success of my business hinged on creating solutions that resonated with their skincare needs.
The very first Ambassador to join us was Gill. During our discussions, she opened up about her struggles with insecurity stemming from a scar on her face, a result of a car accident. She inquired whether any Tropic products could help diminish its visibility. At that moment, I regrettably had to tell her that we didn’t have any options available. However, I was immediately motivated to create a product that would cater not only to her needs but also to anyone dealing with scars or skin imperfections.
On a pivotal trip to Barcelona, while attending an exhibition focused on advancing our product formulations with cutting-edge skincare science, I encountered a breakthrough. I spoke with an expert named Barbara, who introduced me to the remarkable properties of tamanu oil, a substance I had never come across before. She shared its historical significance in Polynesia, where it’s revered as ‘green gold,’ emphasizing how it had been utilized by soldiers for wound care and to alleviate discomfort.
In that moment, I knew I had discovered the ideal ingredient for soothing scars. My subsequent research unveiled even more astonishing benefits of tamanu oil. It was not only a fast-acting cell repair agent, promoting the growth of new skin tissue, but also rich in skin-loving fatty acids. Its anti-inflammatory properties helped reduce irritation, while its antibacterial qualities prevented potential skin flare-ups. Additionally, I found the herbaceous fragrance of tamanu oil to be a unique and appealing characteristic!
When it came to selecting complementary ingredients to formulate the most nourishing balm possible, I recognized that incorporating the moisturizing and skin barrier-strengthening properties of shea and cupuaçu butters was essential. I also added blackcurrant, cranberry, and raspberry seed oils, along with vitamin E to enrich the balm with potent antioxidants. With these elements, I felt confident that the formulation was perfect.
This marked only the beginning of our journey with tamanu at Tropic. Since that initial creation, tamanu oil has become a key ingredient in a wide array of products, enhancing the benefits we provide to our beloved customers and Ambassadors.
