There were a lot of exciting haircare launches in India this year. Here are the ones we actually thought were the best of the lot, and would use again.
Table of Contents
The best hair products launched in India in 2022
1. Mamaearth Natural Henna Paste, Rs 249
Credit: Mamaearth.in
Many don’t like synthetic dyes to color their hair, so this range was a welcome launch. It’s not entirely free of synthetic ingredients, but it doesn’t release those chemical fumes a lot of dyes have which make your eyes water and scalp burn . However, because it does have a lot of natural ingredients, they can react with the scalp in unpredictable ways, so do a patch test!
It takes longer to tint the hair than a chemical dye would, and doesn’t last as long on the hair either. In addition to hair colour-enhancing ingredients like coffee, henna, black tea, and indigo, it has shikakai, bhringraj, brahmi, coconut oil, and rosemary oil to actually benefit your hair. So unlike the usual synthetic hair dye, it’s not a product that’s terrible for your hair if you have to reapply it frequently. The biggest plus? It comes as a pre-mixed paste, making the process easier.

2. L’Oreal Paris Hyaluron Moisture Hydra Filling Night Cream Hair Cream, Rs 499
Credit: Nykaa
Essentially a post-wash leave-in conditioner, this is a great product for the rough, dry, and frizzy lengths of your hair. You can shampoo your hair, towel-dry it, apply this, and then go to sleep. When you wake up, your hair will feel sleek, soft, and silky, like you’ve used conditioner.
While it isn’t the lightweight product it claims to be and can feel a bit greasy for flat or oily hair, it’s an amazing post-wash cream for giving smoothness to curly or dry hair. Just be careful not to use too much on the crown because it can weigh hair down.

3. Love Beauty And Planet Onion, Black Seed Oil & Patchouli Hairfall Control Hair Oil, Rs 550

We love a champi in India, but a lot of nutritive hair oils we use for scalp massages smell like achaarmaking the smell impossible to get out even after shampooing. This one isn’t like that, and is very lightweight and easy to wash out. It contains sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, black seed oil, and onion oil –all of which are great for stimulating hair growth–but it doesn’t smell funky or feel sticky.
Not only great for a scalp massage, this can also be used like a hair serum on the ends for making rough split ends look sleek and nourished if your tips are bleached and dry. The best part is the scent. The fact that it smells so powdery and pretty like perfume makes it an oil we can use daily on our hair, or leave on when we’re going out without worrying about it smelling like onions or masala.

4. Garnier Fructis Hydrating Aloe Vera Hair Food Mask, Rs 725
Credit: Amazon India
One shouldn’t have to pay an outrageous amount to get a hair product that actually nourishes hair from within, instead of just temporarily making it feel silky with silicones. But most hair masks, especially at this price point, have silicone and don’t actually improve hair with repeated use. The ones which are silicone-free need to be left on the hair for a long time to get absorbed. That’s why this range is great. It needs to be kept on for a minute, and makes hair feel conditioned and smooth.
You’d think that the banana and macadamia variants from this range would be richer and more moisturizing, but we’ve found this aloe one–which we initially thought would be lightweight–to be the most nourishing. It makes dry hair smooth, frizz -free, and soft! Now we know a price tag of over Rs 700 might seem like a lot, but you can often get good discounts on this, and you get a lot of product in the tub, making it go a long way.

5. Birds Of Paradyes Fine Tone Toning Shampoo, Rs 795

India does not have a lot of purple shampoos to help tone dyed hair, especially at a reasonable price point. What this does is neutralize the brassy or orange tones in red or blonde hair, to make it look more cool-toned and neutral, instead of flaming orange. Plus, if you have hair that is damaged due to bleachingit’ll help repair and nourish it, thanks to beneficial ingredients like aloe, amla, olive oil, and hibiscus.

6. Dromen & Co Organic Honey Hair Oil, Rs 999

A rich and nourishing hair oil with an unusual ingredient, honey, this has coconut oil, argan oil, sunflower seed oil to make hair silky and shiny. It smells like a mixture of white florals, coconut, and fruity notes, making for a delicious combination of aromas. A great pre-wash oil to apply onto dry and dull strands, this makes hair look like lustrous satin after shampooing. Hair feels soft and manageable, free from the roughness and frizz common towards the drier ends of the hair.

7. Anomaly Leave In Conditioner, Rs 1,000
Credit: Nykaa
Priyanka Chopra’s brand Anomaly has, overall, received mixed reviews after being launched in India this year. While we had a decent experience with most of the brand’s productsit is this leave-in conditioner that is our favourite. And no, it’s not just because it smells divine, like fresh jasmine flowers mixed with Elizabeth Arden’s White Tea perfume!
If you forget to condition your hair, need a top-up of nourishment between washes, or don’t want to stand in the cold shower while your conditioner soaks in, this is a great way to soften and smoothen hair later. What is also great is that while most leave-in conditioners feel sticky and leave a weird residue, this sees into the cuticles quite easily, makes hair easier to detangle, and is easy to spread on both wet and dry hair.

8. Nourish Mantra Advanced Hair Growth Serum, Rs 1,695
Credit: Nourishmantra.in
A good hair growth serum for those with fine, flat and thin hair, this is meant to be applied to the scalp, at the roots. It has Redensyl, AnaGain, and Procapil to stimulate hair growth. You don’t need to vigorously massage it in, but ensuring it reaches the roots by working it in gently helps. Per the brand, it needs at least three months to show results.
Now, the thing with products that claim to stimulate hair growth is that everyone’s hair loss happens for different reasons and is affected by various factors. So whether a hair growth product works for someone is unpredictable. That’s why we don’t know if this will Necessarily help treat severe hair loss, or stunted hair growth due to internal health issues. That said, it did improve hair thickness and density for us, making hair look and feel less flat.

9. Moroccanoil All in One Leave-In Conditioner, Rs 2,610
Credit: Sephora Nnnow
This brand makes really good products for dry hair, and this product is no different. A post-wash product for conditioning the dry lengths of your hair, this has a bit of a learning curve as far as the usage goes.
It comes with a spray nozzle, which can confuse you into thinking it’s a mist. But you need to dispense the product by spritzing it onto your palms and then applying it on your lengths with your hands. It’s important to not use too much, because it can feel oily for those with fine, flat, or oily hair. But if your hair is dry, fluffy, rough, or curly, you’re likely to notice hair feels smoother and silkier upon using this. If you apply it on damp hair, you might not realize you’ve applied too much, and later notice your hair feels oily. So, for best results, use it only if your hair is very dry, as it really helps give that slick and slippery feel to coarse and damaged hair.

10. Kerastase Potentialiste Scalp Serum, Rs 5,200
Credit: Kerastase.in
Now, we know this scalp serum is wildly expensive, so it’s not a must-have if you don’t want to spend. But, if your scalp always feels imbalanced, be it too oily, too dry, itchy, sensitive, and flaky, this is worth testing out if you’re okay with splurge.
It’s got prebiotics and probiotics to maintain the good bacteria in the scalp, and also has vitamin C to improve scalp health. It is lightweight, making the scalp feel and smell fresh. If you need something to soothe your scalp so that hair growth from the Root isn’t hammered by scalp irritation, this is a great product. It also helps the crown look more revitalised with consistent use, so it’s good for those with flat roots.

11. K18 Professional Molecular Repair Hair Mask, Rs 5,625
Credit: k18hair.co.in
This hair mask went viral all across the world, thanks to TikTok. A boon for bleached, smoothened, or heat-treated hair, this remedy the roughness, damage, hardening, and dullness that chemical treatments cause.
It has peptides and wheat protein to help repair hair, and also contains vitamin E. Even though the rest of the ingredients don’t seem revolutionary, somehow they all work together to have amazing results for hair. You just need to shampoo hair, towel dry it, and apply this. It takes four minutes to get activated, and is a leave-in product. You don’t even have to do much!
