However, I found them somewhat cumbersome to apply, despite their effectiveness. Recently, I was introduced to two new scalp exfoliants—one premium option and one budget-friendly choice. The Virtue Exfoliating Scalp Treatment is a lightweight dual-action exfoliant that combines physical and chemical properties, utilizing rice beads and fruit enzymes to gently lift dead scalp cells from hair follicles. Its whipped texture not only cleanses the scalp but also removes impurities and buildup effectively. Infused with Kalahari melon oil and jojoba oil, this treatment provides essential moisture to both the scalp and hair. Additionally, Alpha Keratin 60ku, a proprietary protein derived from ethically sourced human hair, works to repair and nourish hair with every application. This is my first experience with Virtue, and I am excited to see how this unique ingredient performs!

How did my scalp feel? After using the treatment, my scalp felt clean yet slightly itchy. I appreciated that it served as both a treatment and a conditioner. The physical exfoliation was reminiscent of facial scrubs with fine granules, making it easy to distribute through the hair and into the scalp. I worked the treatment from the roots to the ends, and my roots felt lightweight and fresh. To nourish the ends of my hair, I applied some Voir Luxury Hair Oil, ensuring my hair remained hydrated and healthy.

The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Treatment is a clear, watery scalp treatment designed for pre-shampoo application. This chemical exfoliator is fragrance-free and specifically targets issues like itchiness, flakiness, and oiliness in the scalp. The standout ingredient, salicylic acid, penetrates the pores to dissolve sebum and remove buildup that often leads to irritation and flakes. Additionally, it contains Fluidipure 8G, which helps reduce scalp inflammation, and panthenol, a humectant that hydrates, attracts moisture, and locks it in, ensuring a balanced scalp environment.

Applying The Inkey List treatment was straightforward, thanks to its practical nozzle design. I parted my hair and tilted the bottle to direct the product onto my scalp. Its watery consistency allowed me to feel where I had applied it without needing a mirror. For better coverage at the base of my scalp, I flipped my hair upside down and applied the treatment thoroughly. After massaging it in with my fingers, I left it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing it out in the shower. It washed away easily, leaving no residue behind. Compared to the Kristin Ess scrub I used previously, this chemical exfoliator was far more user-friendly and effective.

How did my scalp feel? After rinsing, my scalp felt exceptionally clean, fresh, and free from itchiness. When I blow-dried my hair, I noticed no flakes, indicating that the treatment effectively addressed my scalp concerns. While I sometimes still see minor flakes, this treatment made a significant difference. My hair felt just as it typically does, maintaining its hydration level without any drastic changes. In some cases, stability is key, and this product delivered just that!

Final Verdict: Comparing Effectiveness and Value of Scalp Treatments After testing both products, I was impressed by their unique qualities and the results they delivered at different price points. The Inkey List seemed to provide a fresher sensation for my scalp, making it a worthy contender at a more affordable price. On the other hand, I appreciated that the Virtue treatment also functions as a hair conditioner, enhancing its overall value. Both products are significantly easier to use than the Kristin Ess Bubble Mask and Scalp Scrub, and I am happy to include both in my hair care routine. However, if budget constraints are a concern, the Inkey List Scalp Exfoliant stands out as an excellent choice while still allowing room for luxury options in your collection!
