Initially, I felt a wave of uncertainty when tasked with crafting a blog post focused on achieving artistry with PureBronze Matte Bronzer. Despite my enthusiasm for makeup, I had struggled for years with contouring techniques, often finding myself at odds with bronzers that appeared excessively orange against my pale skin tone. This journey to mastering the art of sculpting my round face was daunting, yet I was determined to learn and improve.
Fortunately, I knew exactly where to seek expert advice: Shawn, our esteemed Director of Artistry and Education. He generously offered to share his invaluable knowledge through a personalized tutorial, equipping me with the skills needed to create a beautifully natural sculpted look that enhances my features.
Essential Techniques for Sculpting Your Face

In our session, Shawn emphasized the importance of starting with highlighting before contouring, a technique that significantly simplifies the sculpting process. By applying a highlighter a few shades lighter than your natural skin tone, or opting for a product with a luminous finish, you can achieve a beautifully lifted complexion. This strategic approach allows you to visually identify the areas that require definition, ensuring a flawless result.
After blending the highlighter seamlessly into the skin, it’s time to apply the contour. Using a contour brush, focus on areas where you desire more depth and definition, such as along the hairline, in the hollows of the cheeks, down the sides of the nose, and along the jawline. An essential pro tip is to start contouring the jawline from behind the ear, which creates a more natural transition and avoids harsh lines that can detract from an otherwise polished look.
Once you’ve sculpted your face to your satisfaction, the key to achieving that sought-after natural finish lies in thorough blending. Make sure to keep the areas nearest to your hairline darker while gradually softening the color as you blend toward the center of your face. This technique helps create a seamless gradient that enhances your features beautifully.
Preparing Your Skin for Flawless Makeup Application

To set the stage for impeccable makeup application, I begin by priming my skin with Smooth Affair® Brightening Face Primer. This essential step ensures that my makeup glides on smoothly and lasts throughout the day. I then apply Glow Time Proâ„¢ BB Cream in GT1 by dabbing it on my cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose, quickly blending it in with my trusty Blending/Contouring Brush. I’ve found that a little of this product goes a long way, and due to its rapid drying time, it’s crucial to blend promptly for an even finish.
For highlighter, I prefer a luminous effect over a matte finish. I choose to apply Active Light® Under-eye Concealer in 1 to the high points of my face, blending it effectively with the Blending/Contouring Brush. To amplify my glow, I finish with the Glow Time® Highlighter Stick in Solstice, ensuring a radiant complexion.
Next, I reach for PureBronze Matte Bronzer in Light, which Shawn wisely suggested due to its balanced tones that avoid the overly warm color that can clash with my skin. I apply it beneath my cheekbones, around my forehead, and along my jawline, blending seamlessly with the Blending/Contouring Brush for a naturally sculpted effect.
As someone with a rounder face, I skip applying blush directly to the apples of my cheeks. Instead, I opt for the Glow Time® Blush Stick in Balmy, applying it from my temple across the top of my cheekbone to the center of my cheek. This strategic placement lifts my face and adds a soft touch of color.
For defining my brows, I use the PureBrow® Precision Pencil in Dark Brown, creating a polished look. I enhance my eyes with the shimmery rose gold shade from the Ravishing PurePressed® Eye Shadow Trio, applying it across my eyelids. To finish my eye look, I apply Longest Lash® Thickening and Lengthening Mascara in Black Ice, ensuring my lashes look voluminous and defined.
Finally, I complete my makeup look with a swipe of our NEW ColorLuxe Hydrating Cream Lipstick in Sorbet, providing a delightful hint of coral that perfectly complements my overall look. When I glance in the mirror, I’m thrilled to see my face appearing sculpted and lifted in a natural manner, free from any orange hues. A heartfelt thank you to Shawn for his invaluable Sculpting 101 Contour Guide!
