In our award-winning article for The Scented Letter Magazine titled How to Spray Your Five-a-Day, we accurately forecasted that vegetable gardens would become a significant source of inspiration for perfumers. Today, we are thrilled to introduce you to the latest collection from L’Officine Universelle Buly Les Jardins Français, a set of fragrances that promise an olfactory adventure that you will truly dig! Each scent in this collection captures the essence of a lush garden and the vibrant aromas that come alive within it.
Presenting ‘The French Garden’, a fresh and exciting collection featuring six unique fragrances from L’Officine Universelle Buly. These scents beautifully blend vegetable notes with elegant floral accords and rich musks, all exuding a refreshing morning dew vibe. The launch coincides perfectly with the release of our new garden-themed edition of The Perfumer’s Garden. The pandemic has highlighted how our gardens and green spaces can significantly impact our mental health and creativity, inspiring us to reconnect with nature.
“A garden is like a perfect universe,” shares Victoire de Taillac, co-founder of Buly (depicted in her own garden below). “It’s a paradise, a haven… Gardening allows us to immerse ourselves in nature, experiencing all aspects of the weather while awakening our senses. The scents blend together to create delightful surprises…” Among these surprises are intriguing combinations like Indian Cucumber paired with Syrian mint, which delivers a burst of “crazy minty joy” enveloped in a soft musk, as well as Iraqi Beetroot harmonizing with Egyptian Rhubarb, grounded by the earthiness of patchouli. Additionally, the trending note of geranium infuses an extra layer of green into Oriental Watercress & Sardinian Parsley.
Some of the fragrance notes featured in this collection, such as rhubarb, carrot, and cucumber, have long been favorites among perfumers, while others, like sweet potato, may initially seem unusual but surprisingly work exceptionally well together. Each scent has been masterfully blended to create an almost photo-realistic experience upon your first inhalation, which then beautifully melds with your skin, evolving into an exquisite fragrance that is uniquely yours. Rest assured, regardless of which scent you choose, we guarantee you will NOT end up smelling like a soup or salad!
The inspiration for this innovative project originated when Ramdane Touhami, co-founder of Buly, purchased an antique seed box at an auction. After winning it, he pondered whether these precious seeds, collected over centuries, could still thrive if planted. Although that particular experiment did not succeed, it sparked a brilliant idea: what if their next fragrance line could encapsulate the affection we all developed for our gardens and green spaces during lockdown? Each spritz, a form of scented escapism, would transport you back to those cherished moments spent in nature.
“Les Jardins Français” revives a captivating and distinctive assortment of garden fragrances. These scents seem to capture the essence of a morning stroll through a vegetable garden and orchard, surrounded by diverse plants nurtured since antiquity by dedicated monks, meticulous collectors, and knowledgeable healers, all of whom are master gardeners and gatherers. Imagine a miraculous harvest from a universal garden, with freshly raked paths embellished with rare flowers, alongside familiar vegetables and simple herbs, creating aromatic and sunny bouquets that delight both the senses and the heart.
Les Jardins Français is available online at www.buly1803.com and at their <strong>Selfridges counter: £145 for 75ml. La Sizaine collection of six x 9ml travel perfumes is also available for £108. This is the perfect way to sample the entire collection because you will want to experience them all!
Since the launch of these captivating fragrances, the collection has expanded to include new offerings such as Savon Superfin soaps and the wonderfully moisturizing Lait Virginal to complement your scents. One thing is certain – this flourishing collection from L’Officine Buly Les Jardins Français is simply un-beet-able. [Apologies]
