Hello, beautiful people! Today I’m excited to share my unique DIY Red Eyeshadow Palette that I crafted specifically for all the indie makeup enthusiasts out there. This small yet vibrant red editorial eyeshadow palette is designed to celebrate individuality and creativity in makeup, allowing you to express your style like never before.
Understanding Terra Moons Cosmetics and Its Impact
It’s important to mention that this DIY palette was created before the recent controversy surrounding Terra Moons X Krystal Clear Makeup and my personal health journey. As a proud advocate for science, factual evidence, and public health, I stand firmly against hate and discrimination. As a queer Jewish woman, I reject ideologies that promote white supremacy and anti-vaccination sentiments. My political beliefs lean far left, advocating for universal rights like universal basic income and healthcare, and I find it challenging to identify with any political party in the United States that truly reflects these values.
This year, I had the opportunity to receive PR from Terra Moons for the first time, and I’ve since shared swatches of my entire collection from them. However, I currently feel uneasy about continuing to support or recommend Terra Moons, despite my admiration for their products, due to their handling of recent events and the collaboration choices they made. There is a wealth of talented indie creators available, so why settle for less?
Is Terra Moons irredeemable? It’s difficult to say. It’s rather disheartening that many companies struggle to make clear, definitive statements against hate and misinformation, such as, “We do not support Nazis or anti-vaxxers.” I believe that such stances should be straightforward for any brand.
The Benefits of Crafting Your Own Red Eyeshadow Palette
Why should you consider a DIY red eyeshadow palette? The reason for my DIY approach is rooted in my passion for customizing my makeup. I adore working with eyeshadow singles, as they allow me to curate a palette filled with shades that complement my unique skin tone and eye color. Instead of being limited by pre-assembled palettes that may feature unflattering colors, I prefer to select hues that enhance my features. As someone who finds warm browns challenging to wear, I enjoy assembling palettes that focus on cooler tones or specific warmer shades that suit me better. Ultimately, the ability to customize my makeup to fit my personal style is precisely why I love DIY projects.
Choosing the Perfect Number of Shades for Your Palette
When it comes to creating a smaller eyeshadow palette, my preference is to include between 8 and 12 shades. This range strikes the ideal balance, ensuring the palette is neither overwhelming nor lacking in variety. I found that using 8 shades was just right for my DIY red eyeshadow palette, providing enough options to create diverse looks without any redundancy.
Alternative Options for Non-DIY Enthusiasts
If you’re not particularly fond of creating your own eyeshadow palette, I highly recommend checking out the 9-pan edits by Beauty Bay. I own two of their palettes, and I can confidently say their formula is both exceptional and affordable. Additionally, consider exploring Vampyre Cosmetics, especially their Emily the Strange palettes, which are remarkably well-crafted. Currently, Vampyre offers a fantastic promotion where you can buy three palettes and receive one for free!

The bottom row features Moon Reverie, Cascade, Infrared, and Daisy. This selection allows for a wide range of creative looks, all centered around the vibrant red theme.
As someone with hooded eyes, I find that incorporating matte eyeshadows is essential for achieving a balanced look. The combination of matte and shimmer shades allows me to create depth and dimension, ensuring that my eye makeup is both striking and well-blended.

My Color Selections Explained

Let’s delve into my matte choices first! I aimed to incorporate both a bright neon red matte, such as Infrared, and a cool-toned red like Cascade. These selections allow for a variety of bright and soft looks. Additionally, Daisy serves as an excellent blending shade to soften the edges of my application. Moon Reverie is essential for deepening my looks without resorting to black, making these four mattes indispensable for crafting versatile red eyeshadow looks tailored to my hooded eyes.
Now, let’s discuss the multichromes and shimmers! Cerise Waves provides a stunning shimmery red for the lid, while Starfire adds incredible dimension and depth, making it a favorite for the outer half of my lid. Jovian Storm is particularly interesting, as it features a reddish base with a captivating shift that reveals hues of red, orange, gold, copper, and even hints of green. Lastly, Blood Moon is perfect for creating a smoky liner or adding extra depth to any look.
All of the multichromes can stand alone for a striking one-and-done eye look, and they also blend beautifully together. You can mix any multichrome with any matte to create stunning, quick statement eye looks. For instance, with Blood Moon, applying it over a black, brown, or burgundy liner using a smoky eyeliner brush creates a rich, complex effect with hints of red, wine, and copper illuminating the depth.
