Today marks a significant milestone as it is the first occasion in nearly a month that I have had the opportunity to paint my nails! This hiatus occurred due to frequent nail breakages, followed by my vacation, during which I decided to give my nails a well-deserved rest. Additionally, my enthusiasm for all things beauty has waned. Like many of my fellow Canadians, I find myself feeling quite disheartened about the current political climate in the US. Unlike the previous election, this one feels much more daunting. There seems to be a lack of advocates for justice, and the unsettling thought of Canada experiencing annexation looms large, especially if our economy continues to decline. The situation is incredibly somber, and the idea of a potential conflict between the US and Canada in the 21st century is downright terrifying! It is a historic moment as the trade war has already commenced without provocation.
Given the weight of these events and their implications for us as Canadians, engaging in beauty blogging suddenly feels rather trivial. During the pandemic, I found solace in this blog, treating it as an escape and a personal journal. While I experienced fear back then, it did not reach the level of anxiety over the threat of nuclear conflict. At this moment, I am uncertain about the future direction of my content. Will this space transform into an escape where everything is portrayed as fine? Or will it evolve into a platform for my rants on pressing issues? The uncertainty is overwhelming, and it feels as though we are mere pawns in a chaotic political game; perhaps finding joy in the little things is all I can do for now.
Now, let’s shift our focus to something lighter—my nails.
This month’s theme celebrates the vibrant colors of “Green” and “Spring.” Although I slightly bent the rules by opting for a teal shade, this color spoke to me profoundly! I began my manicure with Essence’s “Island Hopping,” a stunningly juicy teal polish, and topped it with Cirque’s “Paraiba,” which is one of my all-time favorite glitter polishes. This dazzling polish features a teal base, making it versatile enough to wear alone, as I have in the past. However, it also serves beautifully as a one-coat topper, adding shimmer and depth to any manicure.
I sincerely hope that everyone is enjoying a pleasant week. Sending extra love and positive vibes to all the Canadians out there, along with the Americans who stand against the ongoing trade war <3
