What Inspired the Creation of Tropic?
In 2002, the founder and her mother relocated from Cairns, Australia to London. Financial constraints motivated her to contribute.
Drawing inspiration from her childhood in North Queensland and her grandmother’s expertise as a medicinal chemist, she recreated a body scrub recipe.
She filled 50 recycled jam jars and sold them at Greenwich Market. This scrub, later named Body Smooth, became the foundation of Tropic.
Initially, there was no formal business plan. Late nights were spent crafting products. Early mornings were dedicated to market sales. The primary goal was to assist her mother financially.
How Did Tropic Evolve Beyond a Market Stall?
Those initial jam jars marked the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Today, Tropic is a multi-award-winning skincare brand with millions of customers and over 70,000 five-star reviews.
The company continues to produce its products in the UK at its Surrey Beauty Kitchen.
Every formula integrates nutrient-rich botanicals, clinical science, and freshly made ingredients.
However, the essence of Tropic has always been its people.
More than 20,000 Ambassadors actively promote Tropic across the UK and Channel Islands.
- Community-driven marketing
- Trust-based recommendations
- Kitchen table conversations
- Building communities
What Role Does Social Responsibility Play in Tropic’s Business Model?
From its inception, the founder believed that business should transcend mere profit-making.
It should create opportunities, support communities, and leave a positive impact.
This philosophy led to the establishment of the Ambassador model. Thousands have gained confidence, income, and friendships by sharing Tropic’s products.
Additionally, Tropic is committed to making a broader impact.
Through partnerships with UWS, Tropic has funded over 7.5 million school days and established five Tropic-funded schools in Nepal, Cambodia, and Madagascar.
Tropic is also recognized as a CarbonNeutral® company. The brand is actively reducing its use of virgin plastic and donates 10% of profits to charities and good causes worldwide.
What Are Tropic’s Future Aspirations?
When the founder stood at Greenwich Market at age fifteen, she could not foresee the brand’s evolution.
Today, Tropic remains founder-led. The company still produces 98% of its range in Britain.
Tropic continues to advocate for beauty that is beneficial for both the skin and the environment.
Exciting developments are on the horizon, all made possible by the community that supports Tropic.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
With love & gratitude,
