Here’s a list of ingredients you won’t find in any Tula formulations:

While knowing what a brand excludes from their formulations is important, it’s equally vital to consider the ingredients they do include. Regrettably, Tula incorporates several components that raise concerns:
Fragrance – This is often a contentious ingredient due to the lack of transparency regarding its origin. Unfortunately, it appears in nearly all of Tula’s products. Synthetic fragrances can be acceptable, provided they are not derived from petroleum by-products. However, when a product simply lists “fragrance” as an ingredient, it can encompass a variety of substances that may not be skin-friendly.1

Phenoxyethanol – While it can be safe when sourced cleanly, this ingredient may pose risks if derived from contaminated sources, as it can contain 1,4 dioxane, which is known to be a carcinogen.2
Blue 1 (CI 42090) and Yellow 5 (CI 19140) – Many of these synthetic dyes or aluminum lake colors are derived from coal tar or petroleum.3
Dimethicone – This ingredient can cause skin irritation and disrupt natural skin functions.
Disteareth-75 IPDI – This compound may be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane.
Polysorbate 20 – This ingredient can also be tainted with 1,4 dioxane through ethylene oxide.
PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate – Likely to be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane from ethylene oxide.
Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer – Styrene can be toxic and is classified as a carcinogen.
Sodium Hydroxide – This compound can irritate the skin.
Oleth-20 – This ingredient can be contaminated with ethylene oxide, producing 1,4 dioxane, a known carcinogen.

Definitions of clean beauty vary widely, but based on the questionable ingredients mentioned above, I would not classify Tula as a leading clean brand. However, it’s essential to note that it does present a better alternative compared to many conventional beauty brands.

My Experience
Upon my initial use of this gel cleanser, it felt like a typical gel cleanser. However, after washing my face, my skin felt dry and unbalanced. The scent reminded me of cleaning products, and it failed to remove all of my eye makeup. Overall, I was quite unimpressed with both the ingredient list and its actual performance. Unfortunately, this is not a product I would recommend or use again.
