Hello, Hex Squad! Today marks my farewell to Madam Glam, and I’m excited to share a significant update regarding this brand. I was initially drawn to their dedication to creating vegan, cruelty-free, and non-toxic gel nail polishes, which made them a favorite for safe, at-home nail care. However, my recent encounters with their VIP program have dramatically shifted my perspective, leading to this decision.
Every brand mentioned has been personally purchased by me, and all opinions expressed are solely my own. However, I did receive PR from Madam Glam back in 2021.
Understanding the Allure of Madam Glam and the Realities of Their VIP Programs
Madam Glam gel polish appeared to be an attractive option due to its extensive free-from list, boasting vegan and cruelty-free formulations while being devoid of numerous harmful chemicals. This made it a preferred choice for those seeking safe and effective DIY nail care solutions. Nonetheless, my experiences with the VIP program, which was designed to provide value through monthly credits and substantial discounts, have proven to be quite disappointing and not as beneficial as promised.
Why Choosing Hema-Free Gel Polish is Crucial for Your Nail Health
Using hema-free gel nail polish is essential, especially for those who enjoy DIY manicures at home, as it significantly reduces the risk of developing a gel allergy. Once someone develops a gel allergy, the ability to use gel polish is permanently lost. Unfortunately, I’ve seen this issue frequently discussed in forums like RedditLaqueristas, and I know several friends who have suffered from gel allergies as well.
One brand that consistently emerges in discussions about gel allergies is Beetles, a popular and budget-friendly gel polish line available on Amazon. While I have purchased some of their products, I tend to use them sparingly, as I prioritize my health above all else.

Examining the Madam Glam VIP Program: Benefits and Drawbacks

As a VIP member, Madam Glam polishes are available at approximately $13.48, while non-members pay around $26.96, depending on the product formula. However, despite their claims of a seamless membership experience, I encountered issues with unauthorized charges even during my supposed pause periods. These experiences, including repeated charges following cancellation requests and slow refunds, indicate a troubling disconnect between the company’s service assurances and the reality faced by customers.
Understanding Madam Glam’s Claims of Membership Flexibility
Within the VIP membership framework, they promote the idea that you can pause your membership for 1, 2, or even 3 months. However, my experience tells a different story.

Previously, I would pause my membership for three months, allowing it to charge me again so I could use the funds on either Madam Glam gel nail polish or their Gel Polish remover. I would then pause the membership once more, setting reminders in my calendar to manage the timing.
Madam Glam’s VIP page asserts that you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t align with those claims.
My Experience with the Ineffectiveness of the Membership Pause Feature
Despite multiple attempts to pause my subscription, Madam Glam continued to charge my account. Initially, I attributed these occurrences to technical glitches. However, when this issue arose again in August, I reached out to customer support to request a refund, citing my paused subscription status.
While their support team assured me that a refund would be processed without any issues, the reality turned out to be quite different. My budget is tighter this year compared to last, making this situation even more frustrating.
Upon reviewing my credit card statement, I discovered not only had I not received a refund, but another charge from Madam Glam had also been applied. I contacted support again, expressing my frustration, and was informed that it was a glitch and that a refund would be issued.
At this point, my patience had worn thin. I firmly requested a refund and the closure of my account.
Finally, I received my refund from the Madam Glam VIP program at the end of August, but the damage to my trust had already been done.
Why the Madam Glam VIP Program is Not Worth Your Time or Money
Currently, my perception of their VIP program is that it functions as a questionable method for the company to secure easy revenue. I wonder how many customers monitor their credit card statements as closely as I do.
The allure of exclusive discounts simply cannot compensate for the frustration and financial uncertainty brought about by their problematic VIP system. It appears that the program is structured more to benefit the company than the consumers, encouraging overconsumption through enticing perks that fail to mitigate the potential inconveniences.
In my opinion, the $29 monthly VIP membership fee does not adequately justify the discounts and perks that I actually utilized.
Shared Community Experiences Highlight My Concerns
I am not alone in my dissatisfaction. Many others have expressed similar frustrations online, pointing to a pattern of poor customer service and misleading subscription practices across various VIP programs.
I came across complaints on numerous platforms where individuals reported experiencing the same issues I faced, such as those on RaveCapture and the BBB. Several people noted that after placing their VIP membership on hold, they were still charged.
Many customers were also misled by Madam Glam’s customer service regarding refunds that never materialized. This was certainly my experience, raising questions about the efficacy of their customer service and where it is based, as there appeared to be significant communication breakdowns.
Identifying Red Flags in Membership Programs
Numerous deceptive membership programs exist today. While researching Madam Glam’s VIP membership to see if others encountered similar issues, I found that brands like Savage by Fenty, Fabletics VIP, JustFab VIP, Adore Me VIP, and ShoeDazzle VIP all share comparable complaints.
Shady membership programs typically exhibit several common characteristics:
- Automatic charges without prior notice.
- Complicated cancellation processes that require customers to navigate through tedious or intentionally unclear steps.
- Misleading sign-up processes that misrepresent the nature of the membership as a one-time purchase rather than a recurring fee.
I’ve also encountered complaints regarding this issue with companies like ScentBird and Ipsy.
Discovering Alternatives to Madam Glam for Quality Nail Care

Instead of continuing my relationship with Madam Glam, here are the brands I’m currently using for my nail care routine.
- Vettsy – Offers hema-free gel polish. Use my code CORDELIA to receive a 20% discount. They also provide fantastic nail art tutorials and their gel polishes are priced at just $9.99.
- Painted Desert – Features hema-free gel polish. I adore their builder, Cactus Gelly Plus, and their top coat. Their polishes are around $14.
- Daily Charme – Most products are hema-free. I frequently purchase nail art supplies from them as well. Their polishes are priced around $16, and they often have sales.
- iGel Beauty – Offers my favorite true glow-in-the-dark gel nail polish that isn’t just UV reactive. Their polishes are mostly hema-free and typically retail for $14.99, with frequent sales down to $4.99.
- Nails by Dev – A local indie brand with exceptional products. Their gel polishes are about $14, but are cheaper when purchased in person at their store.
- F.U.N. Lacquer – A creative indie brand from Singapore, with gel polishes priced around $22.50.
- Apres – I enjoy their natural short stiletto tips and Gel-X Prep. Their polishes, which I have yet to try, are priced around $14.99.
All of these alternatives come at a lower price point than Madam Glam’s non-VIP pricing for gel polish. The only brand that comes close to Madam Glam’s inflated $26.96 price is Apres. As you can see, most of these brands are priced around $14, making Madam Glam’s claimed VIP price of $13.48 not worth the hassle of the membership.
Diving into the Quality of Vettsy Gel Polish
Vettsy is a new brand I discovered on Instagram, known for curating nail trend boxes while also selling hema-free gel polish. I’ve tried several of their jelly and crème formulas. The neon formula posed a similar challenge to the iGel glow-in-the-dark gel polishes, requiring extra care to achieve the desired look, but the effort was worthwhile. The cream formula impressed me with its quality and application.
Exploring the Offerings from Painted Desert
Painted Desert is my go-to for the Cactus Gelly Plus builder, which I apply over my Orly Nail Tip Primer in a thin layer, cure it, and then use it to secure my full coverage nail tips. Their Glossy Top Coat, though no-wipe, still requires a final touch with alcohol to achieve the best finish. I’ve tried several polishes from Painted Desert, and I find them lovely. Their full coverage nail tips are also a favorite, with various shapes available.
Daily Charme: A Nail Art Lover’s Dream
Daily Charme has been my most frequently purchased brand over the last few years, primarily due to their extensive selection of nail art supplies. While I own their UV-reactive polishes, I was disappointed to find they are not true glow-in-the-dark. True glow-in-the-dark gel polish charges in sunlight or under an LED lamp, glowing throughout the night, whereas UV-reactive polishes only glow under blacklight. I absolutely love the full coverage nail tips they offer and have several different shapes from them.
iGel Beauty: My Top Choice for Unique Gel Polishes
iGel Beauty has the most varied product range that I’ve explored. Although I tried their dip products and found they weren’t for me, I’m a huge fan of their gel polishes. They offer an exciting selection, including glow-in-the-dark, mood change glow gels (both thermals and glow-in-the-dark), pearl gels, platinum ombre gels, and blossom gels. Their prices are reasonable, and they often have sales, allowing you to grab gel polishes for just $5 a bottle. For true glow-in-the-dark options, iGel is the brand to shop.
Apres: Quality Tips for Perfect Nails
From Apres, I primarily use their natural short stiletto tips and Gel-X Prep, which is designed to etch the interior of full coverage tips for better adhesion. I prefer their short stiletto tips over any other brand I’ve tried, as the shape fits my nails perfectly.
Moving On: Why I’m Done with VIP Programs
I am no longer interested in companies that utilize VIP programs like Madam Glam. I understand that a subscription model can provide businesses with a reliable revenue stream and higher customer lifetime value due to automatic renewals, as many customers forget to unsubscribe or pause their memberships.
However, these companies often employ FOMO (fear of missing out) tactics to entice customers to join their programs through exclusive discounts and early product access, encouraging continued membership even among infrequent shoppers.
Such deceptive practices can severely damage a company’s reputation, especially when paired with poor customer service.
This experience has reaffirmed my commitment to supporting businesses that prioritize transparency and respect for their customers over misleading subscription tactics. It’s disheartening to witness a brand with potential falter due to inadequate customer management. I will continue to support brands like Vettsy, Daily Charme, iGel, Painted Desert, Nails by Dev, F.U.N. Lacquer, and Apres, which treat their customers fairly and offer reasonable pricing.
Madam Glam, it’s high time for transformation—not only in your subscription practices but also in how you value and treat your loyal customers. Until meaningful changes occur, it’s a heartfelt goodbye from me.
