After much deliberation, I’ve decided to share my experience with haircare products, especially since I’ve recently transitioned to a bold purple hue. Maintaining vibrant hair colors can be quite the commitment, and my purple is rapidly fading. With plans to return to a natural blonde/mushroom brown balayage by June, I’m now more open to experimenting with new haircare options. This led me to the drugstore gem, L'Oreal, and their innovative Glycolic Gloss Collection, which I am excited to try!
The Glycolic Gloss line is designed with a unique 2% glycolic acid glossing complex—the same effective acid commonly used in skincare routines—to deeply penetrate the hair fiber. This process seals and smoothens the cuticle, enabling hair to reflect light more brilliantly for up to 10 washes! For anyone struggling with dull, porous, or rough hair, achieving a shiny, vibrant appearance can feel impossible without the right care. The entire routine includes a shampoo, conditioner, a 5-minute lamination treatment, and a leave-in serum to rejuvenate and enhance your hair.
Glycolic Gloss Shampoo*

In my quest to understand the benefits of glycolic acid for hair, I discovered that it serves as an excellent exfoliant for the scalp, effectively removing dead skin and product buildup. However, I remain curious about its direct impact on hair strands. While it may enhance the health of hair follicles, which is a positive outcome, the direct benefits on the hair itself are less certain. The sulfate-free shampoo features a 2% Glycolic Gloss Complex, aiming to fill in cracks and imperfections along the hair fiber. As someone with dry hair, I found this shampoo to be less hydrating than I had hoped; however, it did provide a clarifying sensation, making my scalp feel refreshed.
Glycolic Gloss Conditioner*
5 Minute Lamination Rinse-Off Treatment*
This 17% Glycolic Gloss Complex treatment is the cornerstone of the entire haircare routine, as it delivers the much-needed glossing effect. Paired with the shampoo and conditioner, my hair felt noticeably softer; however, I anticipated a more significant improvement in texture. After blow-drying, my hair appeared smoother, with fewer flyaways—a common issue for me due to my fine baby hairs. I plan to continue using this treatment, but I believe my hair would benefit from different shampoo and conditioner options to maximize softness.
Leave-In Serum*
I found the Leave-In Serum to be an excellent addition to my routine! Comprising a 14% Glycolic Gloss Complex, this glittery pink serum instantly improved the appearance and feel of my hair. It’s versatile enough for use on both wet and dry hair, making it ideal for refreshing second or third-day hair. My colored ends often suffer from dryness due to frequent heat styling, allowing me to use more than the suggested two drops—around two pumps—without weighing my hair down.
Final thoughts on the Glycolic Gloss Collection: While this entire haircare line didn’t meet all my expectations, I found the lamination treatment quite effective, and I appreciated the serum as a refreshing pick-me-up between washes. However, I didn’t feel my hair reached its full potential, as I prefer using more hydrating shampoos and conditioners along with hair masks for optimal care 1-2 times per month. One delightful aspect of this collection was its fragrance; the nostalgic sweet and floral scents transported me back to my teenage years, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
You can find the L’Oreal Paris Glycolic Gloss Routine at all drugstores across Canada.
