Reflecting on my colorful hair journey as an Aveda Ambassador, I embraced a variety of fun hair colors. However, after the unicorn hair trend faded, I opted for a more subdued look. My previous stylist moved to a distant Civello location, making it challenging to continue my appointments. I eventually found Toby through my friend Gerry, who works at Cult Salon, conveniently located just a block from my workplace. Not only is the location a significant advantage, but Toby is also an Asian Hair Specialist trained by Aveda, ensuring I receive expert care for my hair!

I think the closest I’ve come to achieving purple hair in the past was experimenting with “Oil Slick Hair,” which still had my natural black hair as a base. This time, however, I opted for a full-on violet look, and I truly feel like a superhero with my new hair! The transformation is astonishing, as evident from the before photo below; not only did I change the color, but I also opted for a significant haircut, removing about 8 inches of length!

The vibrant color looks incredibly bright under my work lighting, while at home, it appears more subtle, creating a beautiful contrast. Currently, I’m facing a challenge in styling my new shorter hair, as I typically use a flat iron to curl it. With this new length, it’s proving to be a bit more difficult, so I might transition to using a curling wand instead. My ultimate goal is to master heatless curls, as I want to reduce heat damage and prolong the vibrancy of my color, which tends to fade more quickly with excessive heat exposure.

After my first wash, the color remains impressively vibrant, showcasing a beautiful violet hue. Parts of my scalp and even my towel bear the evidence of this striking color, but I anticipate that after a few more washes, I will stop “bleeding violet.” Eventually, I expect the color to fade into a soft ashy blonde, which I’m perfectly fine with. However, I’m eager to enjoy this violet shade for as long as possible, so I’ve ordered a violet-depositing conditioner that should arrive tomorrow. Additionally, I plan to explore all the different brushes in my Dyson Air Wrap kit to discover new styling techniques!

This year has presented its challenges, but shedding the old length and color has been incredibly liberating. I truly feel like I have more “sass” with this vibrant new shade, instilling me with a sense of attitude that I look forward to carrying into my daily life!
