In celebration of Canada Day on July 1st, I aimed to highlight numerous Canadian brands throughout last month. However, due to time constraints, I couldn’t showcase all the brands I had planned. To continue the celebration of Canadian excellence, I am now launching #CanadianSummer! Today, I’m excited to spotlight the Quebec-based brand BKIND once again (you can read my previous review of BKIND here) and discuss their highly acclaimed Moisture and Nourish Hair Mask!
As a regular hair care routine, I apply a hair mask every time I wash my hair. Over the past decade, frequent coloring has made my naturally dry and coarse hair even more parched. Using a quality hair mask helps restore my hair to a state that is “fairly touchable,” significantly improving its texture and manageability.
What makes this hair mask stand out from others? One of the most remarkable aspects of this hair mask is that it features aloe vera as its primary ingredient, which is quite unique since most hair masks typically begin with water. This formulation enhances the hydrating properties of the product and reflects a more premium production process. Additionally, it includes a natural biolipid complex made up of phospholipids and glycolipids, which work to coat and smooth the hair. Among its many nourishing components are shea butter, wheat germ oil, and macadamia seed oil, all of which contribute to its efficacy!
The fragrance is a fruity combination of watermelon and cucumber, which isn’t my personal favorite scent. I tend to lean towards hair masks with floral or citrus notes, but that’s simply my preference. Ideally, this mask should be left on the hair for 5 to 10 minutes. However, I often struggle to keep the water running for that long, so I usually settle for about 5 minutes. I apply it while doing a second cleanse, body wash, exfoliating, or shaving my legs. I suspect that if I could manage the full 10 minutes, my hair would feel even softer afterwards!

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Aqua, Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Polyglyceryl-3 Betainate Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Lactic Acid*, Phospholipids, Natural Aroma, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Glycolipids, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Lactitol, Xylitol, Maltodextrin, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Gluconate.
*Please note that the lactic acid included in this formulation is not intended for exfoliation (as an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA)), but rather to balance the pH of the formula.
Final verdict: What I find intriguing about this hair mask is that initially, it leaves my hair feeling soft and tangle-free, which is relatively standard for hair masks. However, what truly stands out is the longevity of my hairstyles after using it; my styles seem to last an extra day, which is surprising! Is this even possible? Additionally, I’ve noticed that my scalp feels less itchy than usual, especially on Day 3 of not washing my hair when I typically feel the urge to shampoo. For me, this product has provided a delayed but worthwhile sense of satisfaction!
