Hello, beautiful creatures! Today, I’m thrilled to present a detailed showcase of fair foundation swatches and some concealer options ideal for those with similar skin tones. I recently acquired several new foundations for extensive wear tests, but with my upcoming surgery and recovery period, I wanted to share these swatches with you sooner rather than later. I assure you that I won’t be purchasing any more foundations until I complete wear tests on the ones featured in this post, unless I come across a stick foundation that piques my interest.

Understanding My Skin Type and Concerns
At 45, my skin is characterized by dryness and rosacea, presenting a very fair, neutral-cool tone that shifts to muted yellow or yellow olive when exposed to sunlight. My primary skin concerns revolve around blurring fine lines, reducing hyperpigmentation, and achieving a more even skin tone. I strive for a radiant, glowy appearance while avoiding any dryness or cakeiness, which can be particularly challenging. The pursuit of the perfect foundation has led me to explore a variety of options, and I’m eager to share these fair foundation swatches that reflect my journey.
Key Features I Seek in a Foundation
When searching for the ideal foundation, I prioritize a product that seamlessly blends with my skin, making it virtually undetectable. Longevity is crucial; I prefer foundations that can withstand at least 12 hours of wear without compromising on quality. My preference leans towards a light to medium coverage that effectively blurs imperfections, ensuring a natural and flawless finish. Foundation sticks have become my preferred choice due to their customizable coverage, ease of application, and portability. In terms of finish, I am particularly fond of a luminous glow, whether it be radiant or skin-like, striking the perfect balance between natural luminosity and adequate coverage.

In-Depth Insights on Fair Foundations
In the following sections, I will share my detailed insights and experiences regarding these fair foundations and concealers, focusing on their performance and suitability for pale skin tones.
Missha Glow Cushion Foundation in 17 Ivory
After testing the Missha Glow Cushion Foundation in 17 Ivory on two separate occasions, I am impressed by its light-medium coverage and luminous formula. It effectively minimizes the redness associated with my rosacea, which is a significant concern for me. Although it claims to offer superior hydration, a weightless finish, and full coverage, I have some reservations about this translation of the claims. For my skin type, its coverage feels ‘full enough,’ but those seeking complete opacity might find it lacking. Thankfully, it did not irritate my sensitive skin, although the limited shade range, which caters primarily to fair to light skin, remains a notable drawback.
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream RX in 17 Light Beige
For several years, I have been using the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream RX in 17 Light Beige, which is renowned for its impressive 30-hour wear, robust coverage, and substantial hydration. This BB cream suits my skin exceptionally well, and I appreciate how easy it is to apply. My muted undertones align perfectly with this shade, which leans towards a desaturated neutral to cool yellow. Interestingly, it can be found at a reasonable price on Aliexpress, although it’s curiously absent from the Missha US site. However, like many of Missha’s products, the limited shade range for this BB cream is a significant shortcoming that can hinder broader accessibility.

Thread Face It 3-in-1 Stick in 00 Very Fair Neutral
Although I have not yet tried the Thread Face It Stick in 00 Very Fair Neutral, this versatile 3-in-1 cream complexion stick serves as a foundation, concealer, contour, and cream bronzer. With 26 shades available, including at Target and online, I selected shade 00 for both foundation and concealer purposes. Its formulation includes coconut oil, making it both cruelty-free and vegan, although it may not be suitable for all skin types. As an avid fan of foundation sticks, I am eager to conduct a wear test on this product soon. I would love to hear your thoughts on their shade range compared to the other fair foundation swatches I have presented.
Thread Face It 3-in-1 Stick in 20 Light Olive
I have yet to use the Thread Face It Stick in 20 Light Olive, which is specifically intended for contouring my face. I chose shade 20 based on the recommendation from the Thread website, which suggests selecting a contour shade two levels darker than your natural skin tone. Given that I develop an olive hue when exposed to sunlight, I thought that 20 Light Olive would be an interesting shade to experiment with.
Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow 4-in-1 Perfecting Pen Concealer in F10N
Smashbox provided me with the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow 4-in-1 Perfecting Pen Concealer in F10N, along with several other shades for review. This concealer comes in 26 shades, and I find it to be a lovely, lightweight option that effectively conceals imperfections.
Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow 4-in-1 Perfecting Pen Concealer in F20C
In PR, I received the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow 4-in-1 Perfecting Pen Concealer in F20C, likely intended for contouring. However, I have not yet tested it for that purpose.
Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow 4-in-1 Perfecting Pen Concealer in F10W
I purchased the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow 4-in-1 Perfecting Pen Concealer in F10W upon the launch of this line, excited to see how it would perform.
Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer SPF 25 in Fair
Recently, I received the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer SPF 25 in Fair, a product I have previously purchased. Despite the availability of 20 shades, I often struggle to find a suitable match. The lightest shade, Fair, tends to appear too orange for my skin. I frequently wish that American beauty brands would offer more desaturated shades, akin to Missha’s shades 13 & 17. While the poor shade match makes it uncomfortable for me to wear, I am aware of several friends who absolutely adore this tinted moisturizer and find it perfect for their skin.
Smashbox Always On Skin-Balancing Foundation in F10W
Recently, I received the Smashbox Always On Skin-Balancing Foundation in F10W through PR; however, I have not yet had the opportunity to try it out. This foundation is available in 30 shades and boasts a primer-infused formula designed to provide 16 hours of wear without caking, sweating, flaking, or streaking. I am looking forward to testing its performance in the near future.
KVD Good Apple Skin-Perfecting Hydrating Foundation Balm in Light 002
I initially thought I had decluttered the KVD Good Apple Skin-Perfecting Hydrating Foundation Balm in Light 002. This shade matches my skin well; however, it doesn’t suit my dry skin and tends to emphasize dry patches while appearing cakey. It’s been quite some time since I last wore it.
My current dissatisfaction with KVD as a brand stems from two main issues. Firstly, my favorite Everlasting Refillable Blush in Rosebud was discontinued, and their recommendation to try a warmer shade, Peony, didn’t align with my preferences. Secondly, their customer support, managed through Zendesk, seems to be overseeing multiple brands, leading to a confusing service experience where I was advised to sign up for Fenty newsletters for KVD products.
Additionally, KVD’s lack of transparency regarding the 6-month shelf life of their Dazzle Gel eyeliners, which is only mentioned on the outer packaging, feels misleading. This lack of clarity might also apply to their Dazzle Sticks.
Overall, the discontinuation of my beloved refillable makeup product and the unclear communication regarding product lifespans have left me feeling disappointed with KVD.
Monika Blunder Blunder Cover All in One Foundation in Eins
After hearing numerous positive reviews, I decided to purchase the Monika Blunder Blunder Cover All in One Foundation in Eins. I am genuinely impressed by its customizable coverage, which is similar to a foundation stick, as well as its unique formula. I particularly love how easily I can build up the coverage precisely where needed. So far, I’ve used it 3 or 4 times, but I haven’t conducted a complete wear test yet. Designed to serve as both foundation and concealer, it allows for adjustable coverage, making it incredibly versatile. Being silicone-free and vegan are significant advantages. Choosing the shade Eins, based on Mickey’s recommendation, has proven to be a perfect match that blends seamlessly with my skin.
