Earlier this year, I embarked on a journey of self-expression by adding second and third lobe piercings, along with my first cartilage piercing, to my ears. Since then, I have developed a profound obsession with ear stacks and ear curations. This newfound passion has also opened my eyes to a broader love for jewelry as a whole, but in this post, I want to specifically focus on the enchanting world of charms!
I have always been captivated by the aesthetic appeal of charms and chains adorning the ears, yet I hesitated due to fears about the potential pain involved. To this day, I’m not quite sure why I was so apprehensive. However, I finally mustered the courage and visited a local, reputable piercing studio where I had my second and third lobes pierced on both ears, along with an upper helix piercing on my right ear. To my surprise, the experience was relatively pain-free, and the healing process has been uneventful, although it’s still ongoing. Since then, I have added several more piercings to my collection and currently have a self-imposed ban on new piercings until 2024!
To celebrate my birthday and wedding anniversary, I decided to commission two exquisite custom charms from Earth’s Treasury, the same company that beautifully redesigned my wedding ring set and crafted my pendant in memory of Magellan, incorporating the diamond solitaire from my original engagement ring. I envisioned one charm that would harmonize with Magellan’s pendant, while the other was inspired by a breathtaking magenta-purple sapphire that I fell deeply in love with.

The first charm in my collection showcases a stunning 0.53 ct. Colombian emerald in an elegant emerald cut, beautifully complemented by a 0.79 ct. tanzanite (the birthstone of Magellan) in a unique “Helena” cut, along with a 0.12 ct. blue sapphire in a striking trillion cut. All these exquisite stones are meticulously set with classic prongs, while two smaller diamonds in bezel settings seamlessly tie the three larger gems together. The entire piece is crafted from luxurious 14K yellow gold, enhancing its overall allure.
What I adore about this charm is the captivating cascading effect it creates, where the various shapes and cuts reflect light in mesmerizing ways. This color palette is one that I naturally gravitate towards, making it even more special. The charm is versatile enough to be worn as both an earring charm and a necklace pendant, providing multiple styling options. Although it is one of the larger charms in my collection, it feels surprisingly lightweight on my ear. I typically pair it with either a plain gold huggie or a diamond-pave huggie in my first lobe for an elegant touch.

The second charm in my collection features an exquisite unheated purple sapphire elegantly cut in a Serendipity style, adorned with a crescent of dazzling diamond melee stones. Every element is expertly set using classic prong settings in radiant 14K yellow gold. This petite charm makes a significant statement, showcasing a vivid magenta-purple hue that draws the eye.
My admiration for working with Earth’s Treasury stems from the exceptional quality of their gemstones, including even the smallest melee diamonds. It’s often a challenge to find clarity and color in smaller diamonds at many retailers, but I appreciate the transparency that Earth’s Treasury offers. They are renowned for their beautiful sapphires, which are not only durable but also available in a rainbow of colors, making them ideal for everyday wear. Lauryn, their talented jewelry designer, consistently understands my vision and ensures that I never feel rushed during the design process. It brings me immense comfort knowing that she meticulously oversees every stone that goes into my pieces, guaranteeing that I’ll always be satisfied with the final outcome.
After receiving these two stunning charms, I was so impressed by their craftsmanship that I found inspiration in some beautiful daith jewelry I had seen. While I don’t have a daith piercing and am unsure if I have the anatomy for it, I do have conch piercings in both ears, adorned with some amazing pieces. Therefore, while daith jewelry may not be in my immediate future, I decided to treat myself to these charms as early Christmas presents that I simply couldn’t resist!

The third charm in my curated suite features striking tsavorites alongside vibrant lighter blue and deep purple stones, all enhanced by intricate gold work. I aimed for a more geometric aesthetic, utilizing bezels and prongs for a contemporary feel. This charm showcases two square tsavorites, with a total weight of 0.43 ct., set in a bezel-like design, complemented by pyramid-like spikes that extend from the sides. Between these striking pyramids, I incorporated stunning blue and purple color-treated diamonds that elegantly surround the tsavorites.
Before delving into the world of threadless ends for my ears, I wasn’t very familiar with tsavorite as a gemstone. However, I soon discovered its beauty and brilliance, particularly in green stones, whether they be emeralds, tsavorites, or even chrysoprase—another stone I fell in love with while curating my ear collection! The vividness and impact of tsavorite are undeniable, offering a brightness and depth that captivates anyone who lays eyes on it.

The fourth charm represents a unique twist on a defined, geometric design utilizing classic bezel settings. I sought to incorporate warmer, sunset-inspired colors to contrast with my cooler-toned charms. This charm is designed to be more slender yet elongated, showcasing two princess-cut Montana sapphires alongside two straight baguette Madagascar sapphires, beautifully complemented by five small round diamonds interspersed between them. I find this charm to be incredibly versatile, serving wonderfully as both an earring charm and a necklace pendant!
Once again, Lauryn and the team at Earth’s Treasury excelled in transforming my eclectic mix of inspirations and guidelines into stunning pieces that I cherish and wear frequently. Their versatility as both earring charms and pendants allows me to enjoy them in various ways, maximizing their use and beauty.
