In the Summer edition of The Scented Letter Magazine, marking a decade of The Perfume Society, we delve into the captivating wave of wild swimming-inspired scents and other aquatic-themed fragrances that have recently washed over our desks and skin. This new wave of fragrances diverges from the traditional 90’s beach-inspired perfumes, offering a fresh and adventurous take on the aquatic fragrance family that invites exploration and evokes vivid memories of nature’s water bodies.
The introduction to my feature for the magazine sets the scene perfectly: ‘This summer, there’s an exciting rise in scents reminiscent of rock pools, serene lakes, and winding rivers. Could the increasing allure of wild swimming be sparking this trend towards more natural, ethereal fragrances that echo the beauty of our surroundings?’
‘As we witness aquatic fragrances making a significant comeback this season, there’s a noticeable shift towards natural water sources inspiring a plethora of scents infused with elements such as moss, seaweed, driftwood, and algae. In prior editions of The Scented Letter, we explored the resurgence of sea-inspired fragrances; however, recent developments highlight a refreshing change in these fragrant waters. Interestingly, the inspirations for these fragrances are often closer to home, inviting us to plunge into the tranquil, silvery surfaces of lakes; wander through algae-strewn rock pools; revisit the mineral-rich, mystical waters of childhood nostalgia; or explore the lush, mossy beauty of willow-dappled ponds.’
